Snap-On Tool company was incorporated in 1920, and began making sockets and “interchangeable” tools made by Joe Johnson and William A. Seidemann. These two believed in their interchangeable products so much, that the first years were spent demonstrating these products to numerous amounts of people, spreading the great Snap-on word. Their first catalog was published in 1923.

Snap-On faced a civilian tool shortage during World War II, due to the company supplying so many quality tools to the military to fill their high need. In the 1950s and 1960s, Snap-On expanded, and began making more tools. In 1965, a new branch was opened in the United Kingdom. In the late 1970s, the Snap-On company began selling stock on the market. Even though Snap-on was beginning to face competition in the 1980s, from a variety of sources, including Sears, Roebuck & Co., the Mac Tools subsidiary of Stanley Works, the Matco Tools subsidiary of Chicago Pneumatic, and various Japanese companies, Snap-On was able to maintain its premium prices because of the services it offered and the customer relationships in place.
